Help, I’m Having Hot Flushes At 42! Am I Menopausal?

Welcome to this week’s ‘Weekly Wisdom’. Today I'm going to be focusing on early menopause because I had a question from someone in my group about it. Here’s what she said:

‘I’m only 42 and my PMS is getting worse, and i’m starting to get hot flushes. Could this be the beginning of the menopause?’

I hear this question so often and you’d be surprised to hear that research shows many more women are going through an early menopause these days than ever before.

So do hot flushes at 42 mean menopause? Usually, the answer will be yes, but there are other conditions that could cause them. If you’re worried about the changes in your body and you think there could be a problem, do go and visit your local GP.

However, if you are also experiencing anxiety, aches and pains, difficulty in sleeping at night, and you're feeling that your PMS is stretched out to more days than usual, then you might be going through perimenopause, which is the five years leading up to menopause, and as such, lifestyle changes will help you cope and improve the way you feel.
